Soccer development is currently encountering considerable obstacles as fewer businesses are willing to provide support, according to Mohammed Hussain, the coach of Suva. He noted that districts are struggling to secure financial backing from companies for the ongoing four-day primary school inter-district competition in Labasa.
Hussain expressed concerns over the declining number of sponsors for primary school sports and youth development, stating, “We see there are fewer sponsors regarding primary school or the development of the sport.” Participating in tournaments like the inter-district competition demands substantial financial resources. “Finding sponsorship for the four-day competition has been challenging. Funds are necessary for accommodation and other related expenses,” he added.
This challenge has impacted their preparations for the event. Hussain mentioned that a local school in Labasa has provided accommodation for the team, as some players come from low-income families and require additional support. The competition is set to conclude tomorrow.
