The government has allocated $900,000 for clean and safe drinking water projects in the villages of Niurua and Naqumu, located in Macuata. This announcement was made by Macuata provincial administrator Revoni Rakasa during a presentation at the Macuata Provincial Council meeting held at Sasa Village on Friday.

Revoni Rakasa indicated that the government is committed to enhancing infrastructure and services in the Northern Division, which includes Macuata, with a total budget of $637 million set aside for such improvements. “The Government is focused on ensuring that the people in the Northern Division have access to essential services,” Rakasa stated.

The allocated funds are earmarked for critical infrastructure projects encompassing the maintenance and upgrade of roads, water supply, communication facilities, and market access. Several projects have already been pinpointed for funding.

While acknowledging the efforts of the government, Rakasa noted that responses to community needs may take time. He emphasized that the government has demonstrated its commitment to disaster relief, having invested over $655 million last year to assist communities in recovering from natural disasters.

This investment not only aims to improve the quality of life for residents in these villages but also reflects a broader commitment to infrastructural development in Fiji’s northern region.

In summary, the financial commitment towards water projects signifies a positive step towards ensuring health and well-being for the communities in Macuata, ultimately contributing to a stronger and more resilient Northern Division.
