Fiji Airways has announced a travel alert impacting passengers on the Nadi–Vava’u (VAV) route, highlighting possible delays for checked baggage. The airline attributed this disruption to the limited fuel supply from Tonga Airports Limited (TAL), which is the only provider at Vava’u.
Due to the fuel situation, aircraft servicing this route must now uplift additional fuel in Nadi to accommodate the return journey. As a result, this operational change may restrict the aircraft’s payload capacity, potentially leading to situations where some baggage might not accompany passengers on the same flight.
Fiji Airways indicated that any baggage not permitted for immediate transport will be delayed and sent on the next available service that can accommodate the necessary payload. The airline underscored the importance of these measures in maintaining compliance with mandatory aircraft weight and balance limits, reaffirming their commitment to prioritizing safety.
Passengers using this route are encouraged to plan for potential delays in their checked baggage delivery and to pack essential items in their carry-on luggage whenever possible. This situation serves as a reminder of the challenges airlines may face and emphasizes the importance of preparation for travelers.
