The new year is set to bring about an increase in fuel prices in Fiji, with adjustments taking effect on January 1. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) announced today that changes in the prices of gas, kerosene, and diesel are influenced by fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS), as well as international freight and foreign exchange rates.
Although there will be no adjustments to the prices of motor spirit and premix, kerosene and diesel will see an increase of $0.04. Specifically, the cost of a 4.5kg gas cylinder will rise by $0.18, escalating from $15.35 to $15.53. Meanwhile, a 12kg gas cylinder will increase by $0.50, changing from $40.92 to $41.42. Additionally, there will be a three-cent hike in Autogas, moving from $2.22 to $2.25, while bulk gas will see an increase from $3.16 to $3.20.
This adjustment in fuel costs reflects the ongoing global trends in energy pricing, which can substantially impact local economies. As families and businesses prepare for these changes, it may be a good opportunity to consider energy efficiency and alternative energy sources to mitigate impacts on budgets.
Overall, while the increase may seem challenging, it presents a chance for consumers to rethink their energy consumption and explore more sustainable options going into the new year.
