Starting tomorrow, families in Fiji will face higher costs for fuel, gas, and kerosene. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced new pricing for December 2024, reflecting the costs of refined fuel and butane imports from October 2024.
The price of unleaded fuel will increase from $2.62 to $2.67 per liter. Diesel will see a 9-cent rise, bringing it to $2.27 per liter, while premix fuel will now cost $2.51 per liter, an increase of 8 cents. Kerosene will also experience a 7-cent increase, with the new price set at $1.74 per liter.
In terms of gas prices, a 12kg gas cylinder will now cost $40.92 following a $10.1 increase, while a smaller 4.5kg cylinder will rise by 38 cents to reach $15.35. Additionally, the cost for LPG will rise by 8 cents, making it $3.16.
The FCCC indicates that these price adjustments are influenced by fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore, international shipping rates, and foreign exchange fluctuations.
Despite the increase, it’s important to note that these changes reflect global market dynamics. Communities might consider exploring energy-efficient options or alternative fuels to help mitigate the impacts of rising prices. This situation could also prompt discussions about sustainable energy sources, which would benefit both consumers and the environment in the long run.
