Starting tomorrow, families in Fiji will face increased costs for fuel, gas, and kerosene. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced that the adjustments to local fuel prices for December 2024 are influenced by refined fuel and butane imports made by companies in October 2024.

The price of unleaded fuel will rise from $2.62 to $2.67 per liter. Diesel will see an increase of 9 cents, bringing the price to $2.27 per liter. Additionally, the cost of premix fuel will jump by 8 cents to $2.51 per liter, while kerosene will go up by 7 cents, now priced at $1.74 per liter.

On the gas front, the price of a 12kg gas cylinder will increase by $10.1, making it $40.92, and the cost of a 4.5kg cylinder will rise by 38 cents, amounting to $15.35. LPG prices will also see a minor increase of 8 cents, bringing the cost to $3.16.

The FCCC highlighted that these price changes are largely due to fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore, along with variations in international freight rates and foreign exchange rates.

As households adjust to these price hikes, it’s important to remember that fuel pricing can fluctuate and sometimes stabilize, offering hope for potential price reductions in the future as market conditions evolve.

Summary: Fijian families will see increased fuel and gas prices starting tomorrow, with specifics on hikes for unleaded fuel, diesel, kerosene, and gas cylinders. The price changes are driven by international market influences, but there remains hope for stabilization in the future.
