Motorists in Fiji will see notable increases in fuel prices starting tomorrow, August 1. According to the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), unleaded petrol will rise by 9 cents to $2.78 per litre, while diesel will experience a 12-cent increase, bringing its price to $2.45 per litre. Similarly, premix fuel will increase from $2.53 to $2.59 per litre, and kerosene will go up from $1.80 to $1.87 per litre.

In contrast, consumers will benefit from a reduction in cooking gas prices. The cost of a 4.5kg cylinder of cooking gas will decrease by 24 cents to $15.54, and a 12kg cylinder will decline by 65 cents to $41.44.

These adjustments reflect ongoing fluctuations in international fuel markets and local economic conditions, similar to previous reviews where fuel prices were influenced by movements in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS), international freight rates, and foreign exchange rates.

While these increases can impose additional strain on family budgets, they also highlight the importance of looking toward more sustainable energy solutions. Families are encouraged to consider energy-efficient practices that could reduce their overall consumption, potentially leading to long-term savings and a positive environmental impact.

In summary, while tomorrow’s price hikes present challenges for consumers in Fiji, they could open opportunities for adopting innovative energy practices that promote sustainability and efficient energy use in households across the nation.
