Fuel Prices Spike: What You Need to Know for September 2024!

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced new fuel and LPG prices for September 2024, which will take effect from September 1. The revised prices are as follows:

– Motor Spirit: $2.90, an increase of $0.03 or 1.05%.
– Premix: $2.72, rising by $0.01 or 0.37%.
– Kerosene: $1.93, decreasing by $0.02 or 1.03%.
– Diesel: $2.50, down by $0.02 or 0.79%.

In terms of LPG pricing:

– 4.5 Kg Cylinder: $14.86, up by $0.13 or 0.88%.
– 12 Kg Cylinder: $39.63, an increase of $0.35 or 0.89%.
– Bulk LPG: $3.06 per kilogram, which is a rise of $0.03 or 0.99%.
– Autogas: $2.15 per litre, increasing by $0.03 or 1.42%.

These price adjustments are influenced by factors such as international refined fuel prices, freight rates, and exchange rate fluctuations as per July 2024’s imports. The rise in costs for motor spirit and premix, alongside reductions in kerosene and diesel prices, is mainly due to changes in global pricing and currency exchange rates. The increases in LPG prices are linked to stable butane contract costs, elevated freight expenses, and a stronger US dollar against the Fijian dollar.

The FCCC will carry out inspections to ensure adherence to these new prices and encourages consumers to report any unfair practices they may encounter.
