Starting January 1, consumers in Fiji can expect to see an increase in the prices of gas, kerosene, and diesel. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) made this announcement, attributing the changes to fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS), as well as international freight and foreign exchange rates.
Specifically, the price for kerosene and diesel will rise by $0.04, while a 4.5kg gas cylinder will go up by $0.18, changing from $15.35 to $15.53. Additionally, a 12kg gas cylinder will see a $0.50 increase, moving from $40.92 to $41.42. There will also be a slight change in Autogas, increasing by three cents to $2.25, and bulk gas prices will edge up from $3.16 to $3.20.
Despite these increases, it’s worth noting that the price of motor spirit and premix remains unchanged, offering some relief for consumers during this transition.
As consumers navigate these adjustments, it may be helpful to explore alternative energy sources or conservation methods to mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs. Staying informed about fuel price trends can empower individuals and businesses to make more sustainable choices.
In summary, while the start of the New Year brings an increase in fuel prices in Fiji, being aware of these changes may provide an opportunity for consumers to reassess their energy consumption habits and explore potential savings.
