Families in Fiji will face increased costs for fuel, gas, and kerosene starting tomorrow. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced that the local prices for December 2024 reflect the rates determined by refined fuel and butane imports made by fuel and LPG companies in October.
Specifically, the price of unleaded fuel will rise from $2.62 to $2.67 per liter. Diesel will see an increase of 9 cents, bringing it to $2.27 per liter. The price of premix fuel will rise by 8 cents to $2.51 per liter, while kerosene will increase by 7 cents to $1.74 per liter. Additionally, the cost of a 12kg gas cylinder will rise by $10.10, resulting in a new price of $40.92, while a 4.5kg gas cylinder will now cost $15.35, which is an increase of 38 cents. The price of LPG will increase by 8 cents to $3.16.
The FCCC stated that fuel prices in Fiji are affected by fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore, as well as international freight and foreign exchange rates.
While rising fuel costs can put a strain on family budgets, it’s important to recognize that these changes reflect global market trends and conditions. As consumers adapt to new prices, they may find opportunities to explore alternative fuel sources or methods to reduce overall consumption.
In summary, the increase in fuel prices will impact families in Fiji, with various fuel types seeing notable price hikes starting tomorrow.
