Starting tomorrow, January 13, prices for kerosene, diesel, and gas in Fiji will see increases as per the announcement from the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). The adjustments reflect fluctuations in international fuel markets coupled with local economic conditions.
Kerosene will rise by four cents to $1.78 per liter, while diesel will also increase by four cents, reaching $2.31 per liter. Prices for motor spirit and premix fuel will remain unchanged at $2.67 and $2.51 per liter, respectively.
The new pricing for gas is as follows:
– 4.5kg gas cylinder: $15.53 (up 18 cents)
– 12kg gas cylinder: $41.42 (up 50 cents)
– Bulk gas: $3.20/kg (up four cents)
– Autogas: $2.25/litre (up three cents)
The increases in kerosene and diesel prices are attributed largely to unfavorable movements in the international refined fuel prices and a stronger U.S. dollar against the Fijian dollar. In contrast, the rise in gas prices has been linked to increases in butane contract prices, though the impact of these increases has been somewhat mitigated by decreased international freight costs.
As families prepare to cope with the financial implications of these adjustments, there is a silver lining. This situation encourages consumers to explore energy-efficient practices and alternative energy solutions, which can help manage rising costs while promoting environmental sustainability.
In conclusion, while these price hikes may present short-term challenges, they could inspire a more conscious approach to energy consumption within the community, fostering innovation and sustainability in Fiji’s energy landscape.
