Starting tomorrow, families in Fiji will face higher costs as the prices for fuel, gas, and kerosene increase. According to the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), the adjustments in local fuel and LPG prices for December 2024 are influenced by the refined fuel and butane imports made by fuel and LPG companies in October 2024.

The cost of unleaded fuel will rise from $2.62 to $2.67 per liter. Diesel will see a 9-cent increase, bringing it to $2.27 per liter, while premix fuel will increase by 8 cents to $2.51 per liter. Kerosene prices will also go up by 7 cents, now costing $1.74 per liter.

In terms of gas prices, a 12kg cylinder will now be $40.92, an increase of $10.1, while a 4.5kg gas cylinder will see a slight rise of 38 cents, now priced at $15.35. Additionally, LPG prices will increase by 8 cents to reach $3.16.

The FCCC attributes these price changes to fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore, international freight rates, and foreign exchange rates.

This situation emphasizes the ongoing global trends affecting local economies, yet it also serves as a reminder for households to consider alternative energy solutions and to possibly adopt energy-efficient practices to mitigate costs.

In summary, with rising fuel and gas prices impacting households, it is a crucial moment for families to seek budgeting strategies and explore alternative energy sources for greater financial flexibility.
