The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced new regulated prices for Unleaded Petrol (Motor Spirit), Premix, Kerosene, Diesel, and LPG products, which will take effect on January 1, 2025. These price adjustments are based on the import costs incurred by fuel and LPG companies in November 2024, with the FCCC implementing a one-month lag for the price review process.

In its assessment, the FCCC noted that while the prices for Motor Spirit and Premix will remain stable, attributed to favorable international fuel prices and freight rates—even amidst a stronger US dollar—the costs for Kerosene and Diesel are set to increase. This rise is due to heightened international fuel prices and the strong US dollar impacting import costs. Additionally, LPG prices are also expected to go up, primarily driven by an increase in Butane Contract Prices and heightened demand in global markets.

The FCCC highlighted the importance of compliance with the new price regulations, stating that its Enforcement Team will actively monitor prices at both wholesale and retail levels. Consumers are encouraged to report any instances of price discrepancies, and the FCCC has made it clear that its teams are available across various regions to facilitate enforcement and compliance checks.

As January 1, 2025 approaches, the public is advised to stay informed and check in with local fuel outlets for updates regarding the new pricing.

In summary, while some fuel prices will see increases, the FCCC’s commitment to monitoring and enforcing these prices reflects a proactive approach to consumer protection. This vigilance can lead to greater transparency and compliance in the market, ultimately benefiting consumers in the long run.
