The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced updated regulated prices for Unleaded Petrol (Motor Spirit), Premix, Kerosene, Diesel, and LPG products, which will take effect from January 1, 2025. These prices are based on the import data from November 2024, following a one-month lag for the review process.

According to the FCCC’s assessment, the prices for Motor Spirit and Premix are expected to remain stable due to favorable trends in international fuel prices and freight rates, even amidst a stronger US dollar. Conversely, consumers should prepare for price increases in Kerosene and Diesel, as these are influenced by rising international fuel costs and the stronger US dollar.

LPG prices will also see a rise due to increased Butane Contract Prices and heightened demand in global markets. To ensure fairness, the FCCC has pledged that its Enforcement Team will monitor adherence to the new pricing at both wholesale and retail levels. Consumers are urged to report any pricing inconsistencies encountered at fuel outlets, with FCCC teams available across various regions to assist.

As the new prices come into play in early 2025, the public is advised to stay informed by checking for updates at local fuel stations.

This adjustment highlights the FCCC’s proactive approach to consumer protection and market regulation, ensuring price transparency and fairness amid fluctuating global fuel costs. Maintaining price stability for certain fuels while addressing the necessary increases for others reflects the complexities of the fuel market and its ties to international trends. Consumers are encouraged to remain vigilant and informed as these changes take effect.

In summary, while some fuel prices in Fiji will remain unchanged, others will rise due to international factors, prompting the FCCC to enhance monitoring and enforcement to protect consumer interests.
