The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced new regulated prices for various fuel products, including Unleaded Petrol (Motor Spirit), Premix, Kerosene, Diesel, and LPG, which will take effect on January 1, 2025. These prices are based on imports made by fuel and LPG companies in November 2024, following a one-month review period.
FCCC’s analysis indicates that the prices for Motor Spirit and Premix will remain stable, thanks to favorable shifts in international fuel prices and freight rates, even amidst a stronger US dollar. In contrast, the prices for Kerosene and Diesel are set to rise due to the increase in international fuel costs and currency fluctuations. Similarly, LPG prices are also projected to increase due to heightened Butane Contract Prices and a surge in international demand.
To ensure compliance with the new pricing regulations, the FCCC is prepared to monitor wholesale and retail outlets actively. Consumers are encouraged to report any price inconsistencies, and FCCC’s enforcement teams are ready to assist in various regions.
The effective date for the new prices is January 1, 2025, and the public is advised to stay informed by checking updates at local fuel outlets.
Overall, while some prices are set to rise, the regulatory oversight by the FCCC aims to maintain fair pricing and transparency in the market, which can bring reassurance to consumers in Fiji.
