Starting tomorrow, Fijian families will face higher costs as the prices of fuel, gas, and kerosene are set to increase. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced that these price adjustments for December 2024 are based on refined fuel and butane imports made by fuel and LPG companies in October 2024.
The new pricing details reveal that the cost of unleaded fuel will rise from $2.62 to $2.67 per liter. Diesel will see an increase of 9 cents, bringing its price to $2.27 per liter, while premix fuel will go up by 8 cents to reach $2.51 per liter. Additionally, kerosene prices will rise by 7 cents, now costing $1.74 per liter.
In the LPG sector, the price for a 12kg gas cylinder will jump by $10.1, setting the new cost at $40.92. Meanwhile, a 4.5kg gas cylinder will increase by 38 cents, now priced at $15.35. The cost of LPG itself will also rise by 8 cents, making it $3.16.
FCCC attributes these changes in fuel prices to fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore, international freight rates, and foreign exchange rates.
In summary, families in Fiji should prepare for increased expenses in their fuel and gas bills, with significant impacts on their budgets. However, it is noteworthy that the adjustments reflect global market conditions, and consumers may consider exploring alternative energy sources or efficient fuel usage to mitigate these rising costs.
