Fuel and LPG Prices Spike: What’s Changing This September?

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced new fuel and LPG prices for September 2024, which will take effect from September 1. The revised prices are as follows:

– Motor Spirit: $2.90 per liter (an increase of $0.03 or 1.05%)
– Premix: $2.72 per liter (an increase of $0.01 or 0.37%)
– Kerosene: $1.93 per liter (a decrease of $0.02 or 1.03%)
– Diesel: $2.50 per liter (a decrease of $0.02 or 0.79%)

Changes have also been made to LPG prices:

– 4.5 Kg Cylinder: $14.86 (an increase of $0.13 or 0.88%)
– 12 Kg Cylinder: $39.63 (an increase of $0.35 or 0.89%)
– Bulk LPG: $3.06 per kg (an increase of $0.03 or 0.99%)
– Autogas: $2.15 per liter (an increase of $0.03 or 1.42%)

These adjustments are influenced by international refined fuel prices, freight rates, and exchange rate fluctuations based on imports from July 2024. The increase in costs for motor spirit and premix, along with the decrease in kerosene and diesel prices, is attributed to changes in global prices and currency exchange rates. The rise in LPG prices is linked to stable butane contract prices, elevated freight costs, and a stronger US dollar in comparison to the Fijian dollar.

FCCC will oversee compliance with these prices through regular inspections and encourages consumers to report any unfair pricing practices.
