Fuel and LPG Prices Spike: What You Need to Know for September 2024

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced new prices for fuel and LPG, effective September 1, 2024. The revised prices include:

– Motor Spirit: $2.90 (an increase of $0.03 or 1.05%)
– Premix: $2.72 (an increase of $0.01 or 0.37%)
– Kerosene: $1.93 (a decrease of $0.02 or 1.03%)
– Diesel: $2.50 (a decrease of $0.02 or 0.79%)

In addition, LPG prices have changed as follows:

– 4.5 Kg Cylinder: $14.86 (an increase of $0.13 or 0.88%)
– 12 Kg Cylinder: $39.63 (an increase of $0.35 or 0.89%)
– Bulk LPG: $3.06/kg (an increase of $0.03 or 0.99%)
– Autogas: $2.15/litre (an increase of $0.03 or 1.42%)

These adjustments in prices are influenced by various factors including international refined fuel prices, freight rates, and exchange rates based on imports in July 2024. Notably, the rising costs in motor spirit and premix, alongside decreased costs for kerosene and diesel, can be attributed to fluctuations in international prices and currency exchange rates. The increases in LPG prices are linked to steady butane contract prices, higher freight expenses, and a stronger US dollar against the Fijian dollar.

The FCCC will oversee compliance with these new prices through inspections and urges consumers to report any unfair practices.
