The Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU) has formally apologized to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and the public for inaccurately attributing the closure of the HFC Stadium to him in a recent statement. The FSSRU acknowledged the confusion and any upset caused by this miscommunication, highlighting the importance of precise communication in its dealings, especially regarding messages from leadership.
In a corrective circular issued by the FSSRU, they clarified that the decision to close the stadium falls under the authority of the Fiji Sports Council, not the Prime Minister. The Union has expressed its respect for Rabuka and has committed to ensuring greater diligence in future communications.
On a positive note, the FSSRU continues to proceed with its tournament plans, as the Vodafone Deans playoffs and Weet-Bix Raluve quarterfinals are set to take place at the Buckhurst and Bidesi grounds in Suva this Saturday. These matches will also be broadcasted live on FBC 2, further engaging the community and promoting youth rugby.
Next week, the Deans quarterfinals will take place at Churchill Park and Prince Charles Park, with semifinals scheduled at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. The venue for the national final remains to be determined. The proactive measures taken by the FSSRU to correct their earlier miscommunication and ensure smooth tournament execution depict a commitment to fostering the sport while engaging with the public positively.
As preparations continue for the upcoming matches, the excitement builds within the community for youth rugby events, reflecting a strong interest and passion for the sport in Fiji.
