Christopher Pryde, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Fiji, has publicly expressed his frustration over the lack of response from the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) and the Attorney General regarding his ongoing situation. Despite multiple correspondences sent last month, neither the Secretary to the JSC nor Attorney General Graham Leung has acknowledged his letters.

Currently residing in New Zealand, Mr. Pryde is facing fresh allegations that have arisen, further complicating his desire to return to his position. He highlighted that on February 14, 2025, he detailed his responses to these complaints, hoping for prompt action from the JSC so that he could resume his duties without the fear of immediate suspension or salary reduction upon his return.

In previous communications, Mr. Pryde asserted that the complaints against him were entirely unfounded and aimed at undermining his reinstatement. He has been under suspension for nearly two years, with seven months of that period marked by the absence of salary. He expressed concerns over the infringement of natural justice in his case, emphasizing the need for the JSC to acknowledge his correspondence and arrive at a timely decision.

This ongoing situation underscores the broader challenges within Fiji’s legal system, including the need for accountability and transparent communication between judicial bodies and public service officials. Mr. Pryde’s case, echoing sentiments from other recent reports, highlights the implications of unresolved legal disputes on both individual careers and institutional integrity.

There remains optimism among legal stakeholders that, with a clearer understanding of his position and resolution of these pending complaints, the DPP’s office could soon regain operational stability. Such outcomes not only affect Mr. Pryde personally but also the public’s trust in the legal framework.
