Residents of Bitu Place in Caubati are expressing their frustration over the unpleasant odor from rubbish that has been accumulating on the roadside since December of last year. Long-time resident Ashok Kumar, 57, has voiced concerns about the ongoing issue, stating that requests for a “no littering” sign have been made multiple times to the Nasinu Town Council, but no action has been taken.

Kumar highlighted the problem of people dumping their waste, creating an eyesore that has persisted for months. Although the Nasinu Town Council collected the rubbish once since December, it has not been back to address the growing piles. “Sometimes it gives off a bad smell,” he noted, emphasizing the need for more frequent collections or signage to deter illegal dumping.

In response to the residents’ complaints, John Tuiono, the special administrator of the Nasinu Town Council, acknowledged the issue and assured residents that an emergency team was being dispatched to clear the rubbish. He explained that the council has a schedule for collections but emphasized the need for additional support in emergency situations, which involves a standby team that caters to various types of waste.

The situation in Bitu Place mirrors that of other areas in Caubati, where residents have also called attention to persistent rubbish problems. Similar complaints from residents have been raised regarding the council’s perceived inaction in addressing waste management effectively. In some cases, such as in areas with a large accumulation of rubbish attracting pests, community members have resorted to repurposing discarded goods.

It is encouraging that while there are significant challenges, local councils like Nasinu Town Council are beginning to address the residents’ valid concerns about waste collection and management. With ongoing dialogue between the community and officials, there is hope for an upgraded waste management system that will better serve residents and create a cleaner environment overall. Community interaction and cooperation will be essential in fostering civic pride and responsibility in maintaining cleanliness in neighborhoods.
