FRU Expands UK Partnerships to Boost Flying Fijians Ahead of 2025 Quilter Nations Series

The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is actively enhancing its global partnerships and expanding its international visibility through a significant series of engagements in the United Kingdom this week. This initiative is led by FRU Chairman John Sanday and Acting CEO Koli Sewabu and aligns with the Flying Fijians’ participation in the 2025 Quilter Nations Series, showcasing the FRU’s commitment to elevating Fiji’s rugby influence and commercial potential.

During their time in London, the FRU delegation engaged with UK-based partner 8th Man to improve connections with the Fijian diaspora while exploring new commercial opportunities. Their participation in the Fiji/UK Trade Show highlights the dual purpose of promoting sports diplomacy and fostering robust trade and cultural ties between Fiji and the UK.

As part of their comprehensive plan, the FRU team evaluated several high-performance training facilities as potential partners for future Flying Fijians campaigns. They held discussions with Rugby Football Union President Deborah Griffin and CEO Bill Sweeney regarding collaboration on player development and tournament planning, marking a proactive step toward strengthening Fiji Rugby’s operational framework.

Chairman Sanday characterized the visit as both productive and forward-thinking, stating that it opened avenues for innovative cooperation. Acting CEO Sewabu echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the engagements reinforce FRU’s dedication to building a sustainable future for Fijian rugby.

While the Flying Fijians faced a tough match against England, resulting in a 38–18 loss in their opening Quilter Nations Series encounter, the team is set to face off against France this Saturday in Bordeaux, followed by a match against Spain in Málaga the next week.

Given the discussions and strategic initiatives undertaken during this visit, there is a hopeful outlook for Fiji Rugby as it continues to forge stronger ties and cultivate its international presence. The FRU’s ongoing efforts not only aim to enhance global competitiveness but also reinforce community engagement and support for rugby across the nation, paving the way for a brighter future in the sport.
