Vuate Karawalevu, the newest addition to Fijian Drua, expresses his enthusiasm about joining the country’s premier rugby club. At just 23 years old and hailing from Dravuwalu Village in Kadavu, Karawalevu transitions from the Waratahs, attributing his move to divine intervention.
Reflecting on his journey, Karawalevu shared his prior challenges with eligibility at the Waratahs. “God always recognizes those who put in the hard work,” he stated. He spoke with his parents about the possibility of returning home, and they supported the idea, aligning it with what he believes to be God’s timing. This move is particularly thrilling for him and his family, marking a significant step in his rugby career.
Feeling at home with his new teammates, Karawalevu noted that many of the players are familiar faces from his time with the Flying Fijians and his earlier days in high school, especially with the Fiji Schoolboys. This sense of camaraderie has made his transition smoother and more enjoyable.
On the field, Karawalevu sees himself as a versatile player, comfortably fitting into various positions within the back three. “I love playing fullback, but I’m happy to play wing as well; I’m open to whatever comes my way,” he remarked.
