Lafaele Tominiko, originally from Samoa and with strong ties to Tamavua Village in Naitasiri, celebrated his graduation with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of the South Pacific yesterday. Tominiko’s journey to this achievement was marked by personal adversity, including the heartbreaking loss of both his parents at a young age, which he describes as a motivating challenge.
Having lost his father when he was just three years old and his mother at nine, Tominiko recalls the struggles he faced, including moments of despair where he considered giving up. During these trials, he was supported by his mother’s family, who provided the love and guidance necessary for him and his siblings. He expressed his profound gratitude to his relatives and the community of Tamavua for their unwavering support in his upbringing.
Reflecting on his past, Tominiko shared, “Losing both my parents was hard because they were my support system. I am grateful to my aunties, uncles, and Tamavua village for raising me. Looking back now, all the sleepless nights have paid off.” He emphasized that his success would not have been possible without the encouragement from his family, who treated him and his siblings as their own.
Currently, Mr. Tominiko is financially supported by his brother and aunt residing in the United States. He plans to work while furthering his studies and encourages other students to persevere in their pursuits. He urges those facing challenges to remember the reasons they started their journeys, stating, “Keep going, and when you feel like giving up, remember why you started in the first place.”
