In his role, Kimura manages financial records, negotiates with buyers, and addresses operational needs to ensure the sustainable profitability of the cooperative, which has recently started supplying fish to local restaurants, fostering economic growth in the area. He has parlayed his marketing experience—gained from working with food companies and supermarkets in Japan—into a rewarding position that not only benefits the local economy but also supports his personal aspiration of working internationally.
His decision to volunteer was sparked by a desire for global engagement and cultural exchange, something he views as vital for developing countries. Kimura believes that his marketing expertise is crucial in strengthening local markets, contributing to the sustainability of the cooperative, which he envisions as a leading fishermen’s cooperative in the Pacific Islands in the future.
