Radike Nawalu, a celebrated figure in Fijian soccer, continues to make his mark both on and off the field despite entering retirement. Currently employed at Tambua Sands Resort, Nawalu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to stay active in the workforce. “First and foremost, I thank God,” he said in a statement from the resort. He also extended his heartfelt thanks to the management for allowing him to contribute even after his playing days are over.

At the resort, Nawalu works in the landscaping department and serves as a driver, staying connected with the community and the environment he loves. He noted that while he occasionally practices his soccer skills, the game has evolved significantly since his peak years.

Angela Bob, the resort manager, praised Nawalu’s dedication and vibrant personality, highlighting that “Radike is a fantastic worker,” whose sense of humor and fluency in Hindi uplift those around him. She added that Warwick Resorts is dedicated to recognizing all staff members, including retirees who are still capable of contributing, and shared that Nawalu’s journey exemplifies how experience and passion can positively impact a team.

Affectionately nicknamed “Dixie,” Nawalu is regarded as a “legend” in Fijian soccer, celebrated for his exceptional skills as a striker. According to the Fiji Football Association (FFA), he notably played from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s and was a key player for clubs like Nadroga and Suva, as well as the national team. His impressive career includes a stint with Alloway FC in Brisbane and participation in a World Cup qualifier against New Zealand in 1992.

Nawalu’s transition into a meaningful role at Tambua Sands highlights the potential for retired athletes to continue making significant contributions to society, proving that their experience and passion can cultivate a positive environment both in and out of sports.
