Asinate Navunisaravi, a determined businesswoman, took a significant leap 46 years ago when she decided to manage her family’s yaqona business at the Suva Municipal Market after not passing her form four examinations at Koro. Today, she stands as one of the longest-serving vendors at the market, symbolizing resilience and adaptability.
Starting from her yaqona venture, Navunisaravi has successfully expanded her business, now also operating a restaurant and a handicraft outlet within the market. She attributes her achievements to consistent effort and dedication, emphasizing that “it’s the little steps that matter.” Her hard work has yielded remarkable results, enabling her family to purchase property and vehicles, construct rental homes, and most importantly, provide quality education for their six children, who are now forging their own career paths.
In light of the changing economic landscape and the increasing cost of living, Navunisaravi advocates for iTaukei landowners to better utilize their land and capitalize on their resources. Her journey illustrates not only her personal success but also serves as inspiration for others in her community to embrace new opportunities and empower themselves economically.
