Rewa football midfielder Tevita Waranaivalu has honored his family and teammates as he received his award, acknowledging their unwavering support during his challenging times.
Waranaivalu made history by becoming the first Fijian player to win the Digicel Fiji Premier League Golden Ball Award at the Fiji Football Association’s award ceremony held in Lautoka on Friday night.
Originating from Naisomua in Tailevu, he reflected on a tumultuous two seasons marked by injuries and struggles with his weight. “I have been through a lot,” he stated. He described how he faced significant challenges at the beginning of the season due to an injury, but his determination helped him finish strong despite difficult circumstances.
“I returned to the pitch after sitting on the bench for several games. I only played a few minutes initially, but I never lost hope,” he shared, emphasizing the efforts he made to improve his condition, particularly regarding his diet.
Waranaivalu mentioned that his family has consistently supported him throughout his career, whether at home or abroad. He dedicated the award not only to them but also to his entire team, recognizing their collective growth. “Without them, I couldn’t have achieved this. We’ve experienced a lot together, both financially and personally, but our bond has strengthened,” he noted. He specifically dedicated the award to his two sons, Richard and King David.
Earlier this month, Waranaivalu also earned the player of the tournament award at the Police Inter Formation Championship 2024 held in Nausori.
