Yolanda Krystel Goundar, 35, recently received a Trophy of Excellence for her Post-Graduate Diploma in Midwifery, embodying the adage, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” She was among 35 students awarded this significant recognition.
Balancing the intricacies of her studies and her responsibilities as a mother has presented challenges for Ms. Goundar, yet she credits the unwavering support from her family and friends as instrumental in her success. Their continuous encouragement has helped her navigate the ups and downs of her academic journey.
“I can’t express how grateful I am for the strong family support I’ve had throughout this journey, especially my close circle of friends who have morally supported me during some of my toughest moments,” shared Ms. Goundar. She acknowledged the crucial role her mother and siblings played in assisting her with her children during exam periods and study sessions.
With a lifelong passion for newborns, Ms. Goundar’s experiences working alongside skilled nurses and doctors have enriched her understanding of midwifery. She emphasized the importance of caring for both infants and mothers, which serves as her motivation in the field.
Currently, she works as a registered nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. Ms. Goundar concluded with an inspiring message: “Trust God and never lose faith in him.”
