From Struggles to Success: Young Cadet’s Inspiring Journey

Ana Seru, a Year Nine student from the Raiwaqa area, was recognized as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park in Suva. At just 14 years old, Ana faced several challenges during a week of cadet training, including learning to march in humid conditions.

Reflecting on her experiences, Ana acknowledged that her upbringing was not ideal, but emphasized her commitment to excellence in education. “I knew my upbringing was not ideal, but I strived for excellence every time I stepped into the classroom,” she stated. “The only way to improve my life is through education.”

Hailing from Naivucini in Naitasiri, Ana also shared the importance of making sound decisions, especially in the face of peer pressure, a lesson imparted by her family. She dedicated her achievement to her siblings and her father, who was present at the event. “I’m the introvert in the family, and I hope this award will inspire my younger siblings to believe that they can achieve anything if they set their minds to it,” she remarked. She added that her younger siblings, currently in primary school, are now inspired to join secondary school and participate in cadet training after witnessing her success.
