Vika Nakacia, a dedicated rugby player from Yasawa, has faced significant challenges on her journey to athletic success, which she now views as opportunities for growth. Despite often lacking transportation fare to reach her training sessions in Lautoka, Nakacia refused to let this hinder her passion for the sport.

In her own words, “Sometimes I had no fare to attend training, so I had to run and walk to our trainings at Nadovu Grounds from my home in Kashmir.” This determination is remarkable, especially in the face of discouragement often directed at female athletes. Nakacia acknowledges the tough times, saying, “It is hard when you try to play the sport you love and you are discouraged,” but her resilience shines through.

Having played both rugby union and rugby league, she has made a name for herself in the sport and is now eager to represent Fiji at the upcoming Dubai 7s tournament. “I am really hopeful to do my best and make Fiji proud,” she stated, showcasing her commitment to her team and country.

Nakacia’s story is one of perseverance and hope, serving as an inspiration to other young athletes, especially women, who may face similar obstacles. Her journey proves that with hard work and a positive mindset, it’s possible to overcome difficulties and achieve one’s dreams.

This article reflects the emerging narrative of women’s empowerment in sports, where athletes like Nakacia are breaking barriers and encouraging future generations to pursue their passions.
