Wainikiti Latuvere Leana has exemplified remarkable resilience and determination in her quest for success. On Friday, the 26-year-old proudly earned her degree in Tourism Studies and Management from the School of Business and Economics at the University of Fiji.
Hailing from Voua Village in Nadroga with familial connections to Balenabelo Village, Ms. Leana currently oversees Coastline Fiji in Sigatoka. Her academic journey came after seven years of working at Jacks of Fiji following the completion of high school. A significant source of inspiration for her was her late sister, Savaira Basiyalo.
“She was the one who motivated me. I wish she were here to witness my achievement,” Ms. Leana expressed.
The path to her degree was challenging, requiring her to juggle work, academic responsibilities, and family commitments. Ms. Leana had to make tough choices, such as skipping social events and church services to dedicate time to her studies. She mentioned listening to sermons on the radio later as she prioritized completing her assignments.
Describing her experience as mentally exhausting, Ms. Leana reflected on the many sleepless nights spent on coursework and presentations but affirmed that her hard work was fulfilling. “A lot of effort went into balancing everything. It was challenging, but in the end, it was all worth it,” she noted.
In her heartfelt expressions of gratitude, Ms. Leana dedicated her achievement to her late sister, parents, and siblings. Her mother, Makereta Tupou, conveyed her overwhelming pride during the graduation ceremony, saying, “I cried watching her walk across the stage to receive her certificate. It was a proud moment. We faced many challenges, but with God’s strength, we overcame them.”

Her determination showcases that with hard work and support from loved ones, success is attainable, no matter the challenges one may encounter.
