Priyashna Shivangni Sagar’s journey from financial hardship to academic success is a powerful reminder of resilience and the influence of a supportive family. Recently, she was recognized as the top graduate in the Bachelor of Commerce and Accounting program at the Fiji National University (FNU) College of Humanities and Education graduation ceremony.

Reflecting on her achievement, Ms. Sagar emphasized the invaluable lessons taught by her parents, who instilled in her the belief that education is essential for success. “I have taken that seriously in my life and I know that education has brought me here to where I am today,” she expressed with gratitude.

As the youngest of three children, Ms. Sagar embraced both her responsibilities and her family’s struggles while pursuing her studies. Her older brother played a significant motivational role, ensuring she stayed focused on her education despite their financial difficulties. “I owe a lot to my brother because he always made sure he was on time picking me up from school, reminding me of our parents’ struggles, and encouraging me to do better,” she recalled.

The family’s financial hardships were evident, as Ms. Sagar’s parents worked tirelessly to provide educational opportunities for their children. “We faced a lot of financial difficulties… paying for school fees was really hard for us,” she shared. The support from educational assistance programs such as bus fare assistance and the National Toppers Scheme proved crucial in helping her achieve her goals.

Now employed and hopeful for a better future, Ms. Sagar expressed gratitude for the progress made with her brother’s job as well. “We’re slowly getting there,” she stated with optimism.

Motivated to inspire others facing similar challenges, Ms. Sagar has a hopeful message: “I want kids to know that it’s not always going to be hard — there are better days ahead.”

This story serves as an uplifting reminder of the power of determination and support, encouraging those in difficult situations to look forward to brighter days, just as Ms. Sagar has done.
