From Struggles to Success: Ana Seru Shines as Top Cadet

Ana Seru, a Year Nine student from Naivucini, Naitasiri, was celebrated as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park in Suva yesterday. Growing up in the densely populated and socially challenging Raiwaqa area shaped her determination to excel.

During the week-long cadet training, Ana faced the challenges of humid conditions while mastering marching techniques. At just 14 years old, she reflected on her upbringing, stating, “I knew my upbringing was not ideal, but I strived for excellence every time I stepped into the classroom. I had no other choice; the only way to improve my life is through education.”

Emphasizing the importance of making wise decisions, Ana noted the influence of her home teachings, particularly in navigating peer pressure. “Making good choices leads to positive outcomes,” she affirmed.

She dedicated her achievement to her siblings and her father, who were present at the event. As the family’s introvert, Ana expressed her hope that her accomplishment would motivate her younger siblings, who are currently in primary school, to believe in their potential and aspire to participate in cadet training as well.
