From Struggles to Success: Ana Seru Inspires with Cadet Showdown

Ana Seru, a Year Nine student, has made her mark as the top female cadet at the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park in Suva. Growing up in the Raiwaqa area, known for its social challenges, Ana’s experience has been formative. During her week of cadet training, she faced the humid climate while mastering marching techniques, which proved to be a significant challenge for her.

At just 14 years old, Ana recognized that her background was far from perfect, yet it motivated her to pursue excellence in her education. “I knew my upbringing was not ideal, but I strived for excellence every time I stepped into the classroom,” she stated, emphasizing her belief that education is the key to improving her life.

Hailing from Naivucini in Naitasiri, Ana shared her approach to overcoming peer pressure. “Making sound decisions are something I hold onto, especially when dealing with peer pressure, which is something I was taught at home. Making good choices leads to positive outcomes,” she explained.

She dedicated her award to her father and siblings, who were present at the parade. As an introvert in her family, Ana hopes her achievement will inspire her younger siblings to pursue their ambitions. “My younger siblings, who are in primary school, want to join secondary school and participate in cadet training after witnessing my performance,” she said.
