Manaini Lesavua, a 32-year-old resident of Nawaka, Nadi, recently graduated with a Trade Diploma in Baking and Patisserie from Fiji National University (FNU). Emotions ran high as she reflected on her journey during the graduation ceremony held at Vodafone Arena in Suva, where approximately 200 students received their degrees.
Overcome with gratitude, Lesavua paused to honor her mother, who financed her education while simultaneously raising four children under ten years old. “I know my parents are proud of me, even though my father is not here. I can feel his pride in my achievements,” she shared. She expressed heartfelt thanks to her mother for her sacrifices and unwavering support in securing her education. “It was tough, but my mother did everything she could to cover my private school fees,” she remarked, acknowledging the immense challenges she faced juggling motherhood and studies.
Lesavua’s husband also played a vital role, helping with household chores after she gave birth to their second child four years ago. “I am incredibly lucky to have him alongside me,” she noted.
Currently working as a security officer at Wormald Fire and Security, Lesavua is not stopping here; she aspires to pursue a bachelor’s degree in tourism. She encourages young individuals to remain resilient and determined, stating, “The sky is the limit.” Lesavua also hopes to inspire her younger siblings, reminding them to persevere despite challenges.
