Ravikash Chand, a gold medalist from the University of Fiji’s School of Business and Economics, expressed profound gratitude for his elderly parents who were able to witness his recent academic achievement. At the age of 33, Mr. Chand celebrated his graduation with a Master of Commerce in Accounting last Friday at the university’s campus in Saweni, Lautoka.
His exceptional performance earned him the gold medal for being the outstanding student in his field. His parents traveled from Labasa to share in this milestone, and Mr. Chand was deeply appreciative of their sacrifices throughout his education. He commented, “I am thankful they came to witness that their labor was not in vain. They have invested so much in my future.”
Coming from a modest background, Mr. Chand highlighted his father’s hard work as a laborer, which included cutting sugarcane to support his education. This motivated him to excel academically and be a role model for his siblings, illustrating that one’s background does not determine their potential for success. “Regardless of the background we come from, we can all make a difference by breaking barriers and reaching new heights,” he stated.
He began his teaching career in 2012 at All Saints Secondary School in Labasa and is now a father of two. Mr. Chand credited his success to diligent work and effective time management, balancing his family responsibilities, job, and studies. He acknowledged the support of his family and guidance from his lecturers in achieving his goals.
With his master’s degree, Mr. Chand is now poised for new opportunities in teaching at the tertiary level, marking the beginning of an exciting chapter in his professional journey.
