Inoke Yanuyanutawa faced severe financial difficulties that led him to make the regrettable decision to turn to drugs. The young man from Tailevu is currently enrolled in a rehabilitation program at Adult and Teen Challenge in Fiji.
Reflecting on his past, Yanuyanutawa shared, “I was really on my own, finding my own ways to survive on the streets, so I got into drugs.” He noted that drug use is often linked to a lifestyle of crime, leading not only to personal destruction but also to broader social issues. His engagement in drug abuse spiraled quickly out of control, leaving him on the brink of prison at an early age.
Despite these challenges, Yanuyanutawa decided to turn his life around. “I never tried to get back into a life of crime, so I was just trying to deal with drugs and illegal business,” he said. His experience has led him to believe that it is never too late to embrace a better path, particularly one that aligns with Christian faith.
He advises the youth, emphasizing the importance of faith in making positive changes. “I felt like I was on a roller-coaster, doing the same things over and over again,” he explained. Recognizing that choosing a negative lifestyle was within his control, he realized he could also choose a positive direction. “Christ is the way, and he will always be the way,” he said, reinforcing his message of hope and redemption.
Yanuyanutawa reminds us that change is always possible, urging others to resist the destructive paths that drugs offer. “We can live life in a good way,” he encourages, emphasizing the potential for positive transformations even for those who have faced deep despair.
This story serves as a powerful reminder that recovery and hope are attainable for anyone willing to seek a better way, showcasing the resilience of the human spirit.
