Joana Adimila, a stay-at-home mother, has successfully pursued her educational ambitions despite personal challenges. Over the course of 12 weeks of training offered by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), she re-engaged with formal education after being away from it for more than ten years.
Her primary source of income was her jewellery business, but Ms. Adimila remained determined to seek new opportunities even amid financial struggles. “Experiencing what it’s like to be a student again after years at home was refreshing,” she shared. Ms. Adimila expressed gratitude for APTC’s initiatives, which allowed her to explore various potential career paths.
On Wednesday, she celebrated her graduation with a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, focusing on welding and fabrication. Despite the challenges posed by this male-dominated field, she emphasized the need for increased female representation in engineering.
Transitioning from her small business to other career avenues is not an easy feat, but she feels equipped for the future. “I am ready with my newly acquired knowledge because I want to have a better future,” she stated.
