Joana Adimila, a stay-at-home mother, has not let her circumstances deter her from achieving her educational aspirations. During a 12-week training program by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), she dedicated herself to learning after being away from formal education for over a decade.
While running her jewelry business served as her primary income source, Ms. Adimila continuously sought new opportunities. “Experiencing what it’s like to be a student again after years at home was refreshing,” she stated, adding her gratitude for the chances that APTC offered her to explore various fields.
On Wednesday, she proudly graduated with a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, with a focus on welding and fabrication. She acknowledged the challenges of entering a male-dominated industry but expressed the need for more women to engage in engineering roles.
Transitioning from her small business to other career avenues poses its difficulties, but Ms. Adimila is determined. “I am ready with my newly acquired knowledge because I want to have a better future,” she affirmed.
