Joana Adimila, a dedicated stay-at-home mother, has not allowed her circumstances to hinder her educational aspirations. Over a span of 12 weeks, she engaged in training offered by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), re-entering the world of formal education after more than ten years away.
Previously, her main source of income came from running her jewellery business, but Ms. Adimila continually sought new opportunities despite the challenges that come with surviving economically. She expressed her feelings about returning to school, saying, “Experiencing what it’s like to be a student again after years at home was refreshing.”
She expressed gratitude for the APTC’s support, stating it allowed her to explore various potential career paths. On Wednesday, she proudly graduated with a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, with a focus on welding and fabrication.
Although she acknowledges the difficulties of entering a male-dominated industry, she emphasizes the importance of having more women in engineering roles. Transitioning from her small business to other career options is not simple, but she feels equipped with her new skills as she aims for a brighter future. “I am ready with my newly acquired knowledge because I want to have a better future,” she affirmed.
