From Stay-at-Home Mom to Engineering Graduate: Joana’s Inspiring Journey

Joana Adimila, a stay-at-home mother, has successfully pursued her educational dreams despite her circumstances. She completed a 12-week training program offered by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), returning to formal education after over a decade.

Ms. Adimila’s primary source of income has been her jewelry business. Faced with the challenges of survival, she remained determined to seek new opportunities. “Experiencing what it’s like to be a student again after years at home was refreshing,” she remarked. She expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by APTC, which enabled her to explore new potential areas.

On Wednesday, she proudly graduated with a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, specializing in welding and fabrication. Although she acknowledged the challenges of entering a male-dominated field, she emphasized the need for more women in engineering.

Transitioning from her small business to a new career path is daunting, but Ms. Adimila is eager to apply her newly acquired knowledge. “I am ready with my newly acquired knowledge because I want to have a better future,” she stated.
