Joana Adimila, a stay-at-home mother, pursued her educational aspirations despite her circumstances. During a 12-week training program offered by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), she dedicated herself to learning after being away from formal education for over ten years.
While running her jewellery business was her primary source of income, Ms. Adimila continuously sought new opportunities. “Experiencing what it’s like to be a student again after years at home was refreshing,” she remarked. “I’m grateful for the opportunities APTC provided, which allowed me to explore potential areas.”
On Wednesday, she graduated with a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, specializing in welding and fabrication. Although the male-dominated industry presents challenges, she emphasized the need for more women in engineering fields.
Transitioning from her small business to new career paths is no easy feat, but Ms. Adimila expressed confidence in her newly acquired skills: “I am ready with my knowledge because I want to have a better future.”
