From Stay-at-Home Mom to Engineering Graduate: Joana’s Inspiring Journey

Joana Adimila, a stay-at-home mother, has not allowed her circumstances to hinder her pursuit of education. Over the course of 12 weeks of training provided by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), she fully engaged in learning after more than a decade away from a formal educational setting.

While operating her jewellery business as her primary source of income, Ms. Adimila continued to seek out new opportunities despite facing challenges. “Experiencing what it’s like to be a student again after years at home was refreshing,” she remarked. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunities APTC offered, which enabled her to explore potential career paths.

On Wednesday, she proudly graduated with a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, specializing in welding and fabrication. Although she acknowledged the challenges of entering a male-dominated field, she emphasized the need for more women in engineering. Transitioning from running her small business to exploring new career opportunities is not an easy task, but she feels prepared. “I am ready with my newly acquired knowledge because I want to have a better future,” she stated.
