Joana Adimila, a dedicated stay-at-home mother, has not allowed her circumstances to hinder her pursuit of education. After more than a decade away from formal learning, she took part in a 12-week training program offered by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC).
Adimila managed to run her jewellery business, which served as her primary source of income, all while seeking new opportunities for growth. She shared her excitement about returning to the classroom, stating, “Experiencing what it’s like to be a student again after years at home was refreshing.” She expressed her gratitude for the avenues APTC opened up for her.
On Wednesday, Adimila celebrated her graduation, earning a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways with a focus on welding and fabrication. Although she acknowledged the challenges of entering a male-dominated field, she emphasized the importance of increasing female representation in engineering.
Transitioning from her small business to new career options is a significant challenge for her, but Adimila feels equipped with her new skills. “I am ready with my newly acquired knowledge because I want to have a better future,” she affirmed.
