Joana Adimila, a stay-at-home mother, has shown that determination can overcome challenges in pursuing educational goals. After more than ten years away from formal education, she took part in a 12-week training program offered by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), reigniting her passion for learning.
Ms. Adimila’s primary source of income came from her jewelry business, yet she remained focused on seeking new opportunities despite facing hardships. She described her return to student life as refreshing, expressing gratitude for the opportunities provided by APTC to explore new career paths.
On Wednesday, she celebrated her graduation with a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, focusing on welding and fabrication. Despite the challenges inherent in entering a male-dominated field, she emphasized the importance of increasing female representation in engineering careers.
Transitioning from running her small business to exploring new professional avenues has been challenging, but she feels prepared with her new skills. “I am ready with my newly acquired knowledge because I want to have a better future,” she stated.
