Kirikiti Biu, a rising star in sprinting, has transitioned to football after a remarkable showing at the 2025 Fiji Finals, where he secured three gold medals in the sub-junior category. His exceptional speed will now be showcased as he joins the Fiji U-16 extended football squad geared up for the OFC U-16 Championship. Biu, a Year 9 student at Marist Brothers High School, contributed significantly to his school’s success in athletics, helping them clinch the boys’ division title.
Alongside Biu, 37 other talented young footballers from across Fiji have been invited to participate in the Fiji FA Talent Identification Camp from May 6th to 10th at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba. This camp is part of Fiji’s preparations for the upcoming OFC U-16 Championship, which will be held in the Solomon Islands later in the year.
Notable mentions among the squad include Maikah Dau, who has already gained experience playing in Fiji’s Premier Division with Nasinu. His presence, along with other promising players from various regions in Fiji, sets a strong foundation for the national U-16 setup.
The squad is notably diverse, with players representing clubs from Navua, Lautoka, Rewa, and Labasa, among others. Each region has contributed significantly to the national interest in youth football, showcasing the potential future stars of the sport.
This commitment to youth development reflects the ongoing enthusiasm for nurturing football talent in Fiji, promising a brighter future for the nation’s participation in international competitions. As these young athletes gather for training and competition, they embody the hope and passion that sport brings to communities throughout Fiji.
