Atelaite Rokosuka, a career civil servant, experienced a transformative journey after hitting rock bottom. Recently, she graduated from the University of the South Pacific with a Master of Commerce in Management and Public Administration, reflecting on her path with the sentiment that “God is the perfect planner.”
During the graduation ceremony, many women from various backgrounds shone brightly, but Mrs. Rokosuka’s journey was particularly inspiring. Despite enduring significant challenges, she held on tightly to her faith, which she regarded as her only refuge.
In 2018, while balancing family responsibilities, Mrs. Rokosuka made the courageous decision to pursue her master’s degree. The demanding nature of her work with the Government complicated her studies, but she credited her family’s unwavering support as crucial in her quest to succeed.
“Juggling studies and looking after my family daily was far from easy,” she said. “Finding time to study was a struggle, but the right mindset and the backing of those around me fueled my determination.”
Even during her darkest moments, such as a temporary layoff from her position as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, Mrs. Rokosuka’s faith remained unshakeable, propelling her toward further education. She viewed this setback as an opportunity to expand her capabilities and complete her Master’s degree.
While there were times when she felt like giving up, her faith in Jesus Christ helped her overcome challenges and continue striving to become her best self.
“Giving up wasn’t an option for me because I knew I still had a lot to achieve in the future, not just for myself but to impart knowledge to others,” she stated. “I believe that our ability to rise after facing difficulties truly reflects how far we can go in life.”
Through her accomplishments, Mrs. Rokosuka has cultivated a remarkable civil service career spanning 27 years, raised six children with her husband’s assistance, and treasures time with her grandchildren. She is passionate about empowering other women to pursue their educational and professional goals, emphasizing that such encouragement can lead to a supportive community that breaks down barriers.
