Atelaite Rokosuka, a dedicated civil servant, experienced a transformative journey after hitting a low point in her life. Recently, she graduated from the University of the South Pacific with a Master of Commerce in Management and Public Administration. Reflecting on her journey, Mrs. Rokosuka attributed her success to divine guidance, stating, “God is the perfect planner.”
The graduation ceremony saw many women from various backgrounds shine, but for Mrs. Rokosuka, the path was fraught with challenges. In 2018, she began her master’s studies while simultaneously managing family responsibilities, a daunting task that required courage and commitment. The demanding nature of her government role added to the difficulties, yet she persevered with the encouragement of her family.
“Juggling studies and sustaining my family on a daily basis wasn’t easy at all,” she admitted. “Finding time to study was a battle in itself, but with the right mindset and support from those around me, that was a driving force for me.” Even during her toughest times, including a brief layoff from her position as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, Mrs. Rokosuka remained resolute in her faith and dedication to education. She viewed the challenges as opportunities to expand her potential.
She acknowledged moments of doubt but found strength through her faith in Jesus Christ, which helped her navigate setbacks and continue striving for self-improvement. “Giving up wasn’t an option for me because I knew I still had a lot to accomplish in future, not only to educate myself but to share my knowledge with others,” she stated.
With 27 years of service and the joy of raising six children alongside her husband, Mrs. Rokosuka emphasizes the importance of empowering other women to chase their educational and professional dreams. She believes that fostering a supportive community can help dismantle barriers and inspire future generations.
