Amele Biu Besetimoala, a 39-year-old former teacher from Sabeto, Nadi, has transformed the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic into a pathway toward greater accomplishments. During the recent 2024 University of Fiji graduation ceremony held at the Saweni Campus in Lautoka, she proudly received her Bachelor of Teaching in Primary Inservice.

Despite facing job loss due to her decision not to get vaccinated under the “No Jab, No Job” policy, Ms. Besetimoala embraced this setback as an opportunity for growth. She reflected, “I couldn’t continue teaching during the pandemic because I chose not to be vaccinated. But I believe everything happens for a reason. Losing my job gave me the chance to focus on higher education. I’m hopeful to return to teaching next year and continue advancing my studies.”

Balancing her studies with family responsibilities as a mother of four and wife to a Naroi villager from Moala Island, Lau, was a challenge she embraced. “It wasn’t easy to manage my responsibilities, but I thank God for this achievement,” she expressed. Ms. Besetimoala dedicated her degree to her husband, parents, and in-laws, recognizing their unwavering support throughout her educational journey.

She also inspired others to pursue their dreams, regardless of their circumstances, stating, “Age, marriage, or children are not barriers to success. If you have the will, you can achieve anything.” Through her experiences, she underscored the value of perseverance, asserting that “success isn’t just about having a job; it’s about striving for the highest level of education and personal growth.”

Her story serves as a powerful example of resilience, demonstrating that determination can indeed convert challenges into significant achievements.

In summary, Ms. Besetimoala’s journey is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the belief that obstacles can lead to incredible opportunities for personal and professional development. Her inspiring message encourages others to look beyond their current challenges toward a brighter future.
